5 Tips for Taking the Perfect Pic

Hi Guys,

we all want to take perfect pics! Sometimes it is not that easy – it takes a lot of experience and know-how. As you know it is a part of my job to take nice photos. If you scroll through my Insta-feed or even my blog you will see that my way of taking photos has developed over time. So today I have 5 tips for you which help me a lot when it comes to shoot the perfect pic 🙂

Light

Light is everything! First, avoid shooting on bright, cloudless sunny days. Too much sunlight can wash your subjects out. Strong light means strong shadows. If you’re taking pictures of people, those shadows can wind up on their faces. I have sooo many pictures on which one half of me is just black because of the shadows 😀 For me the best time to take pictures is in the morning or late afternoon when the sun is not that high anymore – or on cloudy days.

Right angle

The right angle is very important. My favorite one is a low shooting position and an upward angle. So the photographer has to go down a bit and shoot from a lower point. As you maybe already have noticed I don’t have a lot of straight shot images. So find your favorite angle and don’t be afraid to tell the one who is taking your pictures 😉

Lense

Use a lense with a wide aperture. The wider the aperture – the brighter the pic. A larger maximum aperture means that the lens can pass through more light, and hence, your camera can capture images faster in low-light situations. In addition to that it’s best to set a wide aperture to capture a shallow depth of field, so the background behind your subject is nicely blurred, making them stand out better. Most lenses come with a f4.0 aperture which is the standard. The smaller the number behind the „f“ the wider the aperture 😉

Focus manually

If the subject of your pic is not in the center of the picture, and the auto-focus is focussing the wrong part of the pic it can help a lot to focus manually. Most auto-focus cameras focus on whatever is in the center of the picture. If you don’t want a blurred picture, you’ll need to adjust the focus manually. Most lenses have a switch to turn off auto-focus and a ring (like the one for the zoom) for manual focus or – even better and easier – the camera itself comes with the function to choose the area which should be focused.

Take multiple shots

If you see something that catches your eye don’t take just one shot and hope for the best. We always take like hundreds of pics and afterwards we choose the top 5 or 10. The chance of getting a good photo with your first shot is very slim. Try to vary the angle, light and distance and you will be spoilt for choice 🙂

…and if you are the subject of the pic: never forget to be happy! A pic showing positive emotions is so much more beautiful 🙂

    Mach weiter so, Bianca 🙂

  4. thanks a lot! great tips (:
Do you know if there is a camera out there where you can record videos but also take good quality pictures? Or do i need to buy two different ones? ? xx
